Drug-delivery system

Montmorillonite clay (MMT) is one of candidates for drug delivery system. Because, it has layer structure and shows excellent cation exchange characteristics. Among the drug delivery properties, load and sustained release are crucial to determine the overall efficiency. To enhance load and release property of MMT, therefore, we modified microstructure structure of MMT using milling method. Results indicated that microstructure variation affected to the load and release property of MMT. Layer structure of milled MMT was partially deformed. However, surface area and defect formation influenced to the property enhancement. With increasing milling time, the loading amount and the release rate were increased and decreased, respectively. Our results represented that milling is an effective way to modify microstructure and to enhance the load and release property of MMT clay.
